Week beginning 9th July 2019
This week in English we have been writing our own stories using pictures for inspiration.
We created our own settings, characters and events and made our stories interesting and exciting to capture the readers attention.
We really enjoyed being authors.
In Maths we have been adding and subtracting within 20 using our knowledge of number bonds to help us find the answers quickly.
Homework challenge - How fast can you answer these questions?
6+6, 12-3, 10+10, 19-11, 14+0, 3+2+10, 7+7+6
On Wednesday the children worked extremely hard during our big clean.
They helped with jobs such as checking all the pieces of jigsaws were in the correct boxes, sharpening pencils, cleaning white boards and sorting out construction kits.
We found some things we thought had been lost for ever!!!
Have a lovely weekend.
Week beginning 1st July 2019
This week in English we have been writing stories based on the book 'Lucy and Tom at the Seaside' by Shirley Hughes.
We tried to make our writing really interesting for the reader by adding lots of detail and description.
Homework challenge - Write a detailed description of something you have done this weekend
In Maths we have been looking at the topic of place value.
We have been counting random groups of objects to 100 and ordering numbers to 100.
We now know the value of each digit in a 2 digit number and can partition numbers into tens ones.
Homework challenge - Put these numbers in order from the largest to the smallest
36 91 100 65 42
Put these numbers in order from the smallest to the largest
12 61 5 70 2
In topic we have become artists!
We have been looking at a range of art work and deciding what it is that we like and what it is that we dislike about the art work.
We have then been looking at David Hockney. David links well with our topic as he has an exhibition at the Guggenheim Museum in Bilboa. This is perfect for us as we have looked at Spain as our host country during this topic.
We then took inspiration from David Hockney's paintings and drew our own seaside pictures. We used lots of bright colours and patterns in our work. We then used different media (such as paint and collage materials) to create different seaside pictures.
Thank you to everyone who came to support the children on Sports Day.
The children had a great time and the weather was kind to us!
Have a lovely weekend
Week beginning 17th June 2019
In English we have written a recount of our trip to Lytham St Anne's as part of our topic - Hooray, Let's go on Holiday!
We used time words such as first, next, then, after that and finally to help us organise the events in the correct order.
We also used connectives such as and, but, because and so to connect our sentences together.
Then we added as much detail as possible to make our writing interesting to the reader.
Homework challenge- write a recount of your weekend.
In Maths we have been finding out about the months of the year. We now know that there are 12 months in a year.
Homework challenge - In which month is your birthday? How many months of the year begin with the letter M? In which month do we celebrate Christmas?
In the afternoons we have been busy getting our entries ready for Goosnargh Agricultural Show on Saturday 6th July. Year 1 are entering the Handwriting competition and some Art work on the theme of Rocket to the Moon and Aliens.
Thank you to everyone who purchased pet food from our Year 1 shop after school on Friday. It was a great success. The children have worked hard all week weighing the food, bagging it up and labelling the products. Watch this space for when the shop will re-open.
Have a great weekend.
