Summer 2

Week Beginning 13th June 2022

We have had a wonderful week continuing to practise and recall our number bonds to 10 in maths. The children are wonderful at this now and we have focused on using a 'systematic approach' in order to ensure we don't miss any of our number bonds!

We have started our new literacy topic 'Little Whale' and started the week listening to whale sounds and predicting what animal might make this noise. We then introduced the book and learned new vocabulary such as 'shallow, rich waters and glistening.' The children have loved learning new vocabulary and have created story maps of our new book.

We have also been busy listening to the story 'Handa's Surprise.' We discussed where Handa lives and compared Bolton homes to homes in Kenya. The children talked about the differences using Google Earth to explore Bromley Cross and Kenya!

We have also listened to the story 'Rainbow Fish.' We have been discussing what qualities make a good friend and ways that we can be a good friend to others. We are now starting to make our own Rainbow Fish promises!

In phonics this week we have learned the sound 'oi.' The children have been busy reading and writing words such as coin, join, oil, point etc... You can access this homework via www.educationcity.com and use your child's login at the front of their reading diary.

We apologise that no books have been sent home this week, school are busy organising a new phonics scheme for the next academic year and consequently, the reading books are currently being audited. We have sent another reading homework sheet home with your child instead.

Have a great weekend everyone!

Wednesday 8th - Friday 10th June - Jubilee Week!

Welcome back to our final half term as a Reception class together! We cannot believe how much your treasures have grown and changed over the last 5 half terms, but we look forward to our 6th and final half term together!

This week has been a busy week of Jubilee celebrations! The children have been very busy reading non-fiction books about Queen Elizabeth and learning all about her time as the Queen. The children have also read fiction stories this week including 'The Queen's Knickers' and 'The Royal Nappy.' The children have loved comparing the fiction and non-fiction texts about our queen!

We have all decorated and made our very own crowns this week, the children chose whether to create a gold or purple crown to celebrate the Jubilee! The children have also enjoyed creating play-doh afternoon tea, making Union Jack bunting and even designing a pair of knickers for the queen!

We have had lots of fun in our first few days back at school, have a lovely weekend!
