Spring 2

Week beginning 21st March

This week we have listened to and acted out the story of 'The Gingerbread Man'. We have made and decorated gingerbread men in the playdough, ordered numbers in the sand and painted gingerbread houses. We have been very busy making cards to give to someone special to celebrate Mothers Day and we have thought about why our Mummies are so special.

We have been practising counting and recognising numbers and we have been continuing to practise rhyming words.

Outdoors we have used balancing equipment and built our own balancing trails and we have enjoyed painting the walls with water and practising writing our names.

We hope you all have a lovely weekend and Mother's Day. See you all next week.

Week beginning 14th March

What a busy week of learning! We have loved welcoming our special adults into Nursery this week and sharing our learning with them.

On Monday we listened to the story of the 'Three Little Pigs' and we have retold the story in our tuff tray. On our creative table we have made piggy masks and we have used them to act out the story on our stage. We have explored using straw, sticks and bricks to build houses and we have used tap sticks to tell the story.

On Wednesday morning when we arrived in Nursery there was a pair of boots and two sets of clothes for elves on the stage. Mrs Ashcroft had received a message with a story book to read to the children. The book was called the elves and the shoemaker. We decided to make elf hats in our creative area and we've practised threading laces like the elves do in the shoes.

As part of of our number learning this week we have been making and continuing patterns. We have practised counting out the correct number of objects from a larger group and placing them in a tens frame to help us to subitise them.

Week beginning 7th March

This week we listened to the story Goldilocks and the Three Bears. We have been learning about size and ordering items from smallest to largest and using vocabulary such as bigger than and smaller than. We have learnt a song about Goldilocks going to the Bears' cottage and used instruments to tell the story. We have been talking about staying safe in Nursery this week. We have talked about stranger danger and how it is important to stay with grown ups when we go out to places.

In English this week we have continued to listen to initial sounds in words and we played silly soup. We made a funny rhyming soup.

In Maths we have been counting and matching numerals to quantities as well as learning about size.

We are looking forward to next week when our special people will be joining us for stay and play sessions. Have a lovely weekend everyone.

Week beginning 28th February

We have had an incredible week this week. We have listened to the story Jack and the Beanstalk and a beanstalk appeared in Nursery. At the bottom of the beanstalk we found a letter from the Giant's wife. She told us that her husband hadn't returned home. The children wrote lots of messages telling her that they would help to find him. As part of our activities we have planted beans and peas, broccoli and leek seeds.

We have also celebrated pancake day this week. We learnt that pancake day is called Shrove Tuesday and that the day following is the start of Lent. We made banana pancakes and served them with chocolate, syrup or honey.

On Friday we celebrated World Book Day by coming to school dressed in our pyjamas. We shared lots of stories with each other and we participated in 'The Masked Reader'. We listened to a masked character read a story and guessed which school adult was hidden behind the mask. Mr Clift also visited Nursery to read a story to us. It was lots of fun!

If you see the Giant while your out and about this weekend, please will you let Nursery know so we can tell his wife?

Have a lovely weekend everyone.
