Week Beginning 29th March 2021
This week we have been very busy as frogspawn has arrived in our classroom! It has been very exciting as we have learned all about the life cycle of a frog in our topic and writing lessons. We have even looked at a non-fiction book about frogs and discussed how non-fiction books are different to fiction ones. We loved writing about the life cycle of a frog.
We have learned the 'ch' sound this week. We have been super star writers writing words such as 'chat', 'such' and 'chip.' We loved playing games to read 'ch' words too.
This week we have recapped all of our sounds so far and have been putting them into sentences. We have also recapped all our 'red' words so far that cannot be sounded out. We have used these in our sentences too!
This week we have learned the 'ear' sound. We have been busy reading and writing 'ear' words such as 'hear', 'clear' and 'near.' We even had a go at writing sentences using the 'ear' sound in some words.
In maths we have being learning all about capacity. We started the week learning the vocabulary 'full, empty, half full, hall empty, nearly empty and nearly full.' We have used this vocabulary to describe different amounts as well as order amounts from least to most.
We hope you all enjoy a wonderful holiday and rest from school, it has been so lovely to all be back together again! Your child has brought their waterproof suit home as we no longer need these in school. This is because we are able to use our school suits again after the holiday.
Your child has brought a new reading book home for the holiday. Please practice this with your child regularly. See you all soon!

What a busy few weeks we have had, all back together! We have been busy settling back into our school routing, building on our friendships and having fun. Since we have been back, the children are now in phonics groups named red, green and blue group.

In maths we have been learning all about weight and comparing lots of objects, using vocabulary such as lighter or heavier. We have done this practically using the balance scales, and have learned that the heavier item is tips down and the lighter item goes up. We have also learned that if two items have the same weight then the scales will be balanced.
In writing we have been reading the story 'Think Big!' this book has been all about Humpty Dumpty and his friends, discussing what they want to be when they grow up. Unfortunately, Humpty has an accident and we have been busy writing letters and get well soon cards to him.
In topic we have been reading the story 'The Enormous Turnip' this week and have made and tried vegetable soup. This took lots of skill as the children had to peel and chop the vegetables using the equipment. We have also read the story 'Jack and the Beanstalk' and have grown our own runner beans. We are keeping these in school, for now, as we are going to complete a diary about them and how they change each week.
