Week beginning 13th January 2020
This week in English we have written a story called 'Chewy's Walk'
We planned a route for Chewy (our school pony) to walk around the school grounds, making it as interesting and exciting as possible.
We decided where she would walk first, next, then, after that and finally.
We thought she might like to walk through the flower beds, inside the tepee, in and out of the drums, under the trees and around the sandpit.
On Friday, with Mrs Richardson's support, we took Chewy on her special journey around school. She was very well behaved and loved her adventure. As a treat we gave her a carrot.
In Maths we have been extending our understanding of addition using different practical apparatus such as tens and ones and tens frames.
We are now confident at adding within 10 and have begun to add within 20!
How many different pairs of numbers can you recall that make 10?
How many different pairs of numbers can you recall that make 20?
In our IPC curriculum we have been developing our Geography skills.
We walked around Bromley Cross looking at different human and physical features such as buildings, road signs, bus shelters, the park and playing fields.
We also looked at maps of the local area and drew our route from home to school.
Have a great weekend.
Week beginning 6th January 2020
Happy New Year to you all!
This week in English we have been looking at the book 'Rosies Walk'.
We described the journey of Rosie around the farmyard and then compared it to the journey made by the fox.
The fox encountered many dangers on his walk such as falling into a pond and getting chased by bees!
We were able to use lots of time vocabulary to help structure our sentences such as first, next, after that and finally.
Homework challenge -: Write about a journey you take this weekend such as going shopping or visiting a relative.
Well done to the children who completed their five read challenge this week.
In Maths we have been using 'numicon' to make numbers up to 20.
Please look at the photos below to understand how the children use this resource.
Then we practised reading, writing and ordering number to 100 and finding 1 more and 1 less.
Homework challenge -:
1 more than 11 is?
1 more than 59 is?
1 more than 99 is?
1 less than 70 is?
1 less than 42 is?
1 less than 28 is?
In IPC we started a new topic called 'From A to B'
We talked about different types of transport and then sorted them into those that travel on land, water or in the air.
We then made rockets using junk materials and even launched a rocket on the playground, which was great fun!
Have a lovely weekend.
