Severe Weather

Important - Procedures for Severe Weather

It is our aim to keep school open, even in poor weather, although we need to ensure that we have sufficient adults in school to keep the children safe. We also need heating and running water in order to keep warm and use the toilets.

If it is a Snow Day

We will:

  • Inform families via text that it is a ‘Snow Day’ (usually before 8am)

  • Allow entry straight into school from 8.30am (we don’t want children and parents waiting on the yard)

  • Allow children to be collected directly from the classrooms from 3pm onwards

  • Clear and grit the path

  • Have OOSC available for infants and juniors (some of the usual activities may not be available, but children will be cared for)

We ask that you:

  • Make sure that we have been updated with your latest mobile number

  • Ensure that children wear ‘layers’ to keep them warm, girls wear trousers (it doesn’t matter if they are jeans, we just want everyone to be warm) and check that wellies are in school

  • Avoid parking on the road outside school so that we don’t have children coming into school when cars are slipping around on the road

  • Take account of weather and traffic conditions in order to collect children on time, especially if collecting from club (staff then need to be able to get home to their own families)

  • Have a ‘back up’ plan for who can collect your child if you really are stuck (e.g. a neighbour or the parent of your child’s friend)

Hopefully if we all work together we can make sure that we all stay safe, children can be in school, and parents can be in work.

In the most extreme circumstances we may need to close.

Should this occur we will:

  • Send a text to inform parents of the closure
  • Place a notice on our school website
