Autumn 2

Week beginning 9th December

This week we really enjoyed performing our Nursery Rhyme Nativity for our families and special people. Thank you to all the people who came to support us. We hope you enjoyed watching our performance.

Christmas preparations are in full swing in Nursery. We are making some surprises that we will bring home next week. We have been singing lots of Christmas songs, listening to Christmas stories and we had a surprise visit form Mr Clift who told us that "Santa is Coming to Bolton".

Week beginning 2nd December

We have had lots of fun this week learning about the Christmas Story and why Christians celebrate Christmas. We have explored Nativity characters through small world and we have enjoyed dressing as the charcters and taking on their roles. We have been practising our Nativity songs and we have enjoyed working together to decorate our Nursery classroom. We even made our own Santa Express! In water play we have used ladles to scoop and pour, practising our physical development. Outdoors we have created a sleigh and are having fun visiting lots of different places. We are looking forward to continuing our Christmas fun next week.

Week beginning 25th November

This week we have been thinking about our families and learning that although all families are different, each one is filled with lots of love. Thank you for sending in your family photographs. We have really enjoyed sharing and talking about special people in your families. We have used play dough to make our family members and we bathed babies in the water tray. We have shared the story "Owl Babies" and thought about animal families.

This week we have been enjoying our Christmas preparations as we worked together to create our hall display. We also started to learn new songs for our Nativity. We look forward to sharing them with you in a couple of weeks.

Week beginning 18th November

This week we have celebrated National Nursery Rhyme week. We have shared lots of our favourite nursery rhymes and learnt many new ones. We have practised counting through rhymes such as "5 Little Speckled Frogs" and explored lots of rhyming words, sometimes making up our own funny rhyming words. We have explored Nusery rhymes through our play, making sizzling sausages from playdough, making crowns and black sheep at our creative table and counting fish in the water tray as well as many other fun activities. Thank you to everyone who was able to join us at our Currant Bun Cafe. It was lovely to see you all and share our learning with you.

Week beginning 11th November

This week we have been learning about houses and homes. We have learnt that there are lots of different types of houses and homes such as cottages, flats, farm houses and caravans and many more. We have used the large shapes and building blocks to build houses and we recreated our houses at the creative table. We listened to the story of the 3 Little Pigs and we used tap sticks to make loud and quiet sounds and explore fast and slow as the wolf ran away from the pigs. Outdoors we have built houses using the bricks and we have used natural materials to build animal homes. We have learnt about animal habitats and have talked about how animals camouflage themselves in the environment in which they live. We have made hedgehog pictures and have introduced animal masks in to our role play.

This week we have also enjoyed a visit from some of the year 3 children from the juniors. They came to read stories to us. We are looking forward to their friends visiting us soon.

This week we have loved helping to raise money for Children in Need. We came to school in our pyjamas and did lots of fun Pudsey activities.

At home you could learn a new Nursery Rhyme with your family and friends and share it with your Nursery friends next week.

Week beginning 4th November

This week in Nursery we have been celebrating bonfire night by making firework patterns in rice and drawing fireworks in chalk. We have explored the explosions when we mix food colouring and milk and a small amount of washing up liquid. We have made rockets from collage and have learnt and performed a bonfire night song. We have used the apples from our apple trees to make toffee apples, which were delicious. In our outdoor area we continued to explore colour by sprinkling powder paint and observing how it changed in the rain. We have been looking at shapes and learning how to make pictures by bubble painting. In our mud kitchen we made our own toffee apples.

Next week we will be learning about homes and habitats. Over the weekend you could look at different types of houses when you go out.

Week Beginning 28th October

Welcome back to school. We have had a wonderful and busy start to our new half term. On Tuesday and Wednesday we have explored Autumn and Halloween. We have searched for bugs in our water tray and counted how many we found. We explored pumpkins and found out that inside they are stringy and gooey and have lots and lots of seeds. We used various utensils to cut and carve, deciding which were the best tools to use. In our mud kitchen we used our pumpkins to make pumpkin soup and pumpkin pie. We have played in our new camping role play area and used the campfire to cook our food.

On Thursday and Friday we have been learning about the Hindu festival of Diwali. We have made our own diva pots using play dough and creative materials and we have used rice to make rangoli patterns. We learnt that Hindu people watch firework displays as part of their Diwali celebrations and we explored colour mixing in our outdoor tuff spot.  We enjoyed listening to Indian music and performing a dance with our friends.

At home you could show a special person some of your dance moves.
