Week beginning 4th November
This week in Nursery we have been celebrating bonfire night by making firework patterns in rice and drawing fireworks in chalk. We have explored the explosions when we mix food colouring and milk and a small amount of washing up liquid. We have made rockets from collage and have learnt and performed a bonfire night song. We have used the apples from our apple trees to make toffee apples, which were delicious. In our outdoor area we continued to explore colour by sprinkling powder paint and observing how it changed in the rain. We have been looking at shapes and learning how to make pictures by bubble painting. In our mud kitchen we made our own toffee apples.
Next week we will be learning about homes and habitats. Over the weekend you could look at different types of houses when you go out.
Week Beginning 28th October
Welcome back to school. We have had a wonderful and busy start to our new half term. On Tuesday and Wednesday we have explored Autumn and Halloween. We have searched for bugs in our water tray and counted how many we found. We explored pumpkins and found out that inside they are stringy and gooey and have lots and lots of seeds. We used various utensils to cut and carve, deciding which were the best tools to use. In our mud kitchen we used our pumpkins to make pumpkin soup and pumpkin pie. We have played in our new camping role play area and used the campfire to cook our food.
On Thursday and Friday we have been learning about the Hindu festival of Diwali. We have made our own diva pots using play dough and creative materials and we have used rice to make rangoli patterns. We learnt that Hindu people watch firework displays as part of their Diwali celebrations and we explored colour mixing in our outdoor tuff spot. We enjoyed listening to Indian music and performing a dance with our friends.
At home you could show a special person some of your dance moves.
