Week beginning 16th November 2020

This week in English we have been looking at the story 'The Shopping Basket' by John Burningham.

We have learnt how to use commas in lists eg

Steven bought some eggs, apples, bananas, doughnuts and a packet of crisps.

He met a bear, monkey, goat, kangaroo, pig and an elephant.

 

Homework challenge-

Write a list of 5 toys that you own.

Write a list of 5 fruits that you like to eat.

Write a list of 5 things that you pass on the way to school.

 

We have also been practising our handwriting.

We need to remember to use leads for each lowercase letter that we write and ensure our letters are the correct size to one other.

 

In Maths we have continued to develop our skills recognising and using money.

 

Homework challenge -

I have 5 coins in my purse. What could their value be? Explore possibilities.

I have three silver coins in my purse. What could their value be? Explore possibilities.

 

We are also becoming more competent playing the violin and can't wait to perform for you in the future!

Week beginning 8th November

This week in English we have been learning about plurals and the rule for adding s or es.

We have also been learning about the suffixes - ing, ed, er and est.

In Maths we have been learning to recognise different coins and notes.

We have also been practising making amounts using different coins and notes.

Find three  different ways to make 20p, 43p, 75p and 96p 

 

In History we have been learning about Remembrance Day and why people wear poppies on November 11th.

 

We have had fun dressing up in our pyjamas for Children in Need.

Week beginning 2nd November 2020

This week in English we have been learning about adverbs.

We used adverbs in our sentences about fireworks.

eg The fireworks popped brightly in the sky.

The rocket zoomed quickly into the air.

The crowd shouted excitedly!

 

Later in the week we wrote some firework poems and practised using exclamation marks.

Then we learnt about the history of bonfire night and why we have fireworks!

 

In Maths we have been finding pairs of numbers that make 100

eg 40 + ? = 100           ? + 70 = 100

 

We then used hundred, tens and ones apparatus to help us find missing numbers

eg  32 + ? = 100         ? + 54 = 100 

 

Maths homework - Log onto Hit the Button and practise your number bonds to 20 and then number bonds to 100.

Reading Homework - Practise reading the words in the 2016 Phonics screening test below.

First segment and then blend the words - sh-ee-p   sheep

 

In Science we have been learning about why animals are suited to the environments in which they live.

 

We have also had fun making snowflakes, hedgehogs and owls for a display board in the hall. Once the board is completed we will upload a picture of it onto the website.
