Wonderful Wildlife

Week beginning 9th July 2018

This week in Literacy we have been writing our own stories.

We tried to include some humour in our stories to make the reader laugh!

We have also been developing our reading comprehension skills ready for Year 2.

In Numeracy we have been developing our recall of addition and subtraction facts to 20.

We tried to answer as many questions as we could in three minutes.

This week we also enjoyed coming to school dressed in red and white clothes to support England in the world cup.

We participated in a number of football activities on the back field and had lots of fun.

Have a lovely weekend.

Week beginning 25th June 2018

This week in Literacy we have been writing facts about Birds, Reptiles, Insects and Amphibians.

In Numeracy we have been solving addition and subtraction problems such as-

There were 16 people on the bus and 5 people got off.

How many people were left on the bus?

We really enjoyed the 'Hawk and Owls'  visit on Monday.

We learnt lots of wonderful facts about these birds and had the opportunity to hold one of them.

We were particularly impressed with the barn owl that could dance!

In Topic we have been sorting animals in lots of different ways eg 'Warm blooded/Not Warm Blooded,  Fly/Not fly, 4 legs/Not 4 legs etc

Have a lovely weekend.

Week beginning 18th June 2018

This week in Literacy we have been writing facts about mammals.

After our Owl visit on Monday 25th June (which we are very excited about) we will hopefully  be able to write facts about birds too.

We  also copied the poem 'The Owl and the Pussy Cat' in our best handwriting this week. Some of our handwriting will be entered into Goosnargh and Longridge Agricultural Show.

In Numeracy we have been developing our understanding of division.                                    We found our knowledge of counting in twos, fives and tens very useful for working out the answers to problems

eg 12 divided by 2 is 6 (How many groups of 2 are there in 12?)

In the afternoons we have been drawing pictures of a Royal Wedding to enter in Goosnargh and Longridge Agricultural Show.

Congratulations to Class C who won the 5 Read Challenge this week.

Year 1 Challenge- We wonder if all of Class C and all of Class D could read 5 times in the next week and earn their reward of an afternoon playtime?

Have a lovely weekend.

Week beginning 11th June 2018

This week in Literacy we have read the story - 'The Fish Who Could Wish'

We then thought about what we would wish for if we were given three wishes.

Some of us would like to be able to fly, or be a famous pop star or have a real swimming pool in our garden!

In Numeracy we have been developing our understanding of Multiplication and have learnt all about the X sign.

We have been solving multiplication questions such as:-

How many wheels on 3 cars? (4x3=12)

How many eyes on 5 people? (2x5=10)

In Topic we have been talking about the variety of creatures that live in the sea.

We have looked at the work of the artist Jason Scarpace and drawn fish in the same style.

We have also developed our observational skills by drawing seashells.

We looked carefully at the patterns, shapes and sizes of the shells.

We experimented with different grades of artists pencils to create texture and shadow.

We wish all our Dad's a very Happy Father's Day on Sunday.
