Summer- India

Week ending 30th June 2017

We have had a super fun week this week in maths. We have been learning all about position and direction. We have been guiding each other through a special map, we have been using the Bee-bots and we have even made our own course out of lego. We have learnt lots of new positional language and recapped over left and right. We have learnt clockwise and anticlockwise as well as being able to direct people the amount they should turn. For example a quarter turn clockwise.

In English we have been learning about a traditional Indian story called the tiger child. We are planning to write our own version of the tiger child. So far we have looked at the features of the story and then ordered the events of the story.

Our topic this week is looking at command style sentences. We had a class vote to see which is the most popular fruit, we then wrote some instructions on how to make a fruit kebab and on Friday we got to create our own fruit kebab! Delicious!

Enjoy your weekend!

Week ending 23rd of June

We have had a super week in school enjoying the glorious sunshine. In maths we have been looking at fractions. We have learnt what the top number is called and also what the bottom number is called (test us on this at home!). We have been looking at all the fractions which we need to learn in year 2 which are 1/2, 1/4, 1/3. 2/4, 3/4.

We have looked at splitting shapes, numbers and our favourite was splitting pizzas in to the different fractions!

In English we have been looking at the river Ganges. We have thought of some questions which we wanted to find out about the river and then used the Ipads and the computers to research the questions. We have found out some amazing facts and even taught the teachers!

On Wednesday we had our cinema trip. Unfortunately Enchanted didn't work due to a fault in the cinema but we got to watch Boss baby instead and it was amazing! The children were very excited for the trip and it was clear to see by all the huge smiles which they had. Despite being super excited the children were all very sensible all trip and in particular on the train. You have made all the teachers super proud.

Thank you to all the helpers on our trip and all the support from parents and people at home! Only 4 weeks left at the Infants!!

Week ending 9th June 2017

Welcome back after our short break! This week we have been looking at a range of different activities. We have continued to look at shape in maths and have been investigating shapes and the different properties which they each have. We have spent a lot of time on 3D and 2D shapes as it something which we find a little tricky.

We have been writing some beautiful poems this week. We started the week looking at acrostic poems and now we have moved on to writing some rhyming couplets. We have read a poem which is based on our topic of India and take the structure of that poem and used it to create our own gorgeous poems. The children have done incredible poems and we could see a few parents were taken aback by just how super they were at our parents morning. We would like to thank all the parents and grandparents and grown ups that joined us on Thursday morning, we felt the morning was a great success and the children had lots of fun.

In topic we have been creating some biscuits so that we can write our command sentences about them and we have also been testing out some more games in order to work out the algorithms which make them work.

We have been doing some special artwork on Friday afternoon for a special day that is coming up soon.
