As part of E Safety Day on Tuesday, we created a class set of rules for using the internet.

We then used these rules to create posters.

 

We have used the ipads to create Valentine's Day E Cards, these have been emailed to you using the email address we have for you in school. If you don't receive your email please let either Mrs Marshall or Miss Brown know.

We have also been learning the days of the week.

 

At home we could practise writing the days of the week and the months of the year.

This week in Literacy we have been finding out about the Space Race between Russia and America.

 

We placed events in chronological order.

 

We found out able Laika the dog and the monkeys Able and Baker.

 

At home you could write about Laika, Able and Baker.

 

In Numeracy we have been solving lots of problems.

In topic we have been:

 

Creating the earth using a gym ball.

Looking at weather symbols, and making our own weather forecast.

 

We have been looking at the map of the United Kingdom.

This week we have been finding out about Wales.

We have found out about the flower of Scotland.

We have also found out the capital city of Scotland and St Andrew. We tried to count to 10 in Welsh.

We tasted some Welsh cakes.

At home you could find out more about Wales on the internet and write what you find out in your homework book.

This week in Literacy we have been writing our own Space Poems.

We some of us wrote 3 poems!

We are poets and we didn’t even know it!

 

We need to practise our letter formation including forming capital letters.

 

 

In Numeracy we have been doubling and halving numbers. The more we have practised, the quicker we have become.

In topic we have been:

Making and tasting astronaut food.

Making a jet pack.

We have been looking at the map of the United Kingdom. This week we have been finding out about Scotland. We listened to some bagpipes, found out a little bit about Burns’ Night and found out about the flower of Scotland. We have also been finding out about the capital city of Scotland and St Andrew.  

At home you could find out more about Scotland on the internet and write what you find out in your homework book.

This week in Literacy we have been reading Space Poems.

We wrote as many star words as we could that ended in ‘ing’

We have been practising writing the alphabet in order and writing capital letters.

 

At home we could order our dvds in alphabetical order. We could practise our letter formation including forming capital letters.

 

In Numeracy we have been trying to solve a problem!

 

We have been writing the pairs of numbers that make 10. We realised there was a pattern. We then used this pattern to write the pairs of numbers that make 20.

We could practise  these at home.

 

In topic we have been:

Collaging the surfaces of the planets.

Naming and ordering the planets.

Making our own star constellations.

 

We have been looking at the map of the United Kingdom. This week we have been finding out about Northern Ireland. We watched some Irish dancing and even had a go ourselves and found out about the flower of Northern Ireland. We have also been finding out about the capital city of Northern Ireland and Giant’s Causeway.  We tasted some Irish stew and potato cakes.

At home you could find out more about Northern Ireland on the internet and write what you find out in your homework book.

This week in Literacy we have read ‘The Aliens are coming’ By Colin McNaughton.

We wrote about what horrible things the aliens like to eat.

 

 

We made our own alien puppet and used some brilliant adjectives to describe them.

 

At home we could use our puppet to make up stories and write more about our alien.

 

In Numeracy we have been finding half of a shape. We found out that there are 2 halves in a whole.

 

We used bread to find quarters. We found out that there are 4 quarters make a whole and 2 quarters make a half.

 

In topic we have been:

Designing and making a control panel for our rocket.

Thinking about what we would take in our suitcase if we went to the moon.

Creating a life sized space suit.

Using junk materials to make a rocket.

 

We have been looking at the map of the United Kingdom. This week we have been finding out about England. We watched some St. Georges Day celebrations and found out about the flower of England. We have also been finding out about the capital city of England and other places.

At home you could find out more about England on the internet and write what you find out in your homework book.

Each Friday we will also be have a  quick maths challenge. We have to answer questions as quickly as we can to improve our mental arithmetic skills. The aim is to beat our own score each week! You could help us practise by asking us quick questions such as 3 + 2 =, 5 + 4 =, etc.

 

 

This week in Literacy we have read ‘Man on the Moon (a day in the life of Bob) By Simon Bartram.

 

We wrote about what jobs Bob does each day on the moon. We wrote simple instructions on ‘How to clean the moon.’

 

 

We could keep a diary about what we do each day.

 

At home we still need to practice using capital letters and full stops in their correct places and writing our letter correctly.

 

 

In Numeracy we have been reading, writing and ordering numbers 0 – 100 from the smallest number to the largest number (E.g. 21, 37, 46, 61) and then, to make it even trickier, we ordered them largest to the smallest number.

We have been finding the numbers that are more than and less than given numbers. (1 more than 52 is 53. 1 less than 52 is 51.) We have also been finding the missing numbers on a broken 100 square using our knowledge of 1 more and 1 less and 10 more and 10 less.

In topic we have been:

 

Taking Wilbur on a walk of our school grounds and using positional language to describe where he went.

Drawing our journey to school and learning our addresses.

 

Walking around our local area to find out what is around us. We looked on Google Earth at Bromley Cross. We talked about what we liked and disliked.
