Spring Term 1 What is a star?

Week beginning 12th February.

WOW! What a busy half term! Our teachers are very impressed with our progress since January.

This week we have found our about the celebrations of Pancake Day, Valentine's Day and Chinese New Year.

We made and tasted pancakes then we have been outside having pancake races!

We have read 'Guess how much I love you' and written our own sentences about who we love.

We found out a bit about what happens at Chinese New Year and we tasted some delicious food, noodles, prawn crackers and fortune cookies.

We hope you all have a lovely half term.

We have sent number formation sheets home for you to practice.

Please remember to keep up with your 5 reads at home with your child and to sign their reading record.

Week beginning 5th February.

We have had another busy week in Reception, we loved reading the book Q Pootle 5 in Space, and we talked about what we would take to the alien party on Planet Dave and also wrote sentences.  We have sequenced the story and made our own books.

Please remember to keep up with your 5 reads at home with your child and to sign their reading record.

With number this week, we have been continuing our learning on subtraction.  Some of us are finding this a bit tricky,  you can help your child at home by creating take away stories, such as I have 4 chips and I eat 1, how many are left.  Your child can practise writing their numbers at home, remembering that  the starting point for writing numerals is at the top.

In our topic we have talked about what it means to be a star, we shared the things that we are good at in our groups.  Then we went to the top of the banking and shouted our star qualities out as loud as we could, so that the people in Bolton could hear us.

Thank you for the photos you have sent in, that show your child trying something different, our hall display is looking fabulous, we will post a picture next week, when it is finished.

Week beginning 29th January

*Reminder*

By Tuesday 6th Febuary Please could you send a photograph of your child trying something new, for our display, to marshalls@eagley-infant.bolton.sch.uk. This could be your child trying new food or doing a new activity like riding a bike.

We have been working so hard this week!

In Maths we have been learning to take away. We have found this quite tricky but have persisted! You could help us at home by using toys to take away, for example, get 6 toys cars, drive 3 away, how many are left? Can you write this as a subtraction using the signs - and =?

In Literacy we read the story, 'How to catch a star' We imagined we went to space and wrote about what we could see. We are trying very hard to use our sounds to write our words. You could practise this at home.

In topic we have written a non fiction book about space, we have been on a space hunt in the outdoor area. On the computers we used the mouse to draw an alien then used the keyboard to write its name.

Week beginning 22nd January

It has been another fun week in Reception! We have loved having our parents in school finding out about how we learn our numbers and maths. Thank you so much to you all for coming in.

In topic this week we have been making rockets outdoors, using the ipads to make talking aliens and designing our own underpants for the aliens!

Please could you send a photograph of your child trying something new, for our display, to marshalls@eagley-infant.bolton.sch.uk. This could be your child trying new food or doing a new activity like riding a bike.

Week beginning 15th January

It has been a fun week in Reception, we have read the story Aliens Love Underpants, and even found lots of underpants in our classroom!  We have talked about how they got there, we have described.  Some of us even said that it is not alright just to take things, you have to ask first.  We have drawn our own underpants and written words to describe them in a list.  You can help your child at home by writing different lists, maybe a shopping list or a list of toys.

We have still been working hard with our addition and learning the symbols + and = and talking about what they mean.  We have added objects in the classroom, people and spots on ladybirds.  At home how many different things can you find to add up.

In our circle time, we have talked about the ways that we could be a good friend and what behaviours may hurt other people.  We have been kind to our animals at Eagley Infants, making bird feeders for our wild birds.  The signs of winter mean that there are no berries on the bushes or trees and the ground is too hard for the birds to get worms.  We have been good friends, just like Percy the Park keeper is to his animal friends.

Please remember to sign your child's reading record, so that we know they are doing their 5 Read Challenge.

Week Beginning 8th January

This week we have read the story ‘Whatever Next’ we wrote a list of thing to take to space. Could you help your grown ups write a shopping list?

In maths we have started to add this week. We counted out 2 sets of objects and then put them together to find out how many there are altogether. You could practise this at home with your toys, count out 2 sets of toys and then put them together to find out how many there are altogether.

We created some winter art and have been looking for signs of winter in our outdoor area, look out of your window, what signs of winter can you see?

Well done to the children who completed the first 5 read challenge. We hope you enjoyed your extra playtime!

Remember children, you must read your reading book to a grown up and they will write in your reading diary each time to say that you have read.

This week we started our guided read, so the children will read a ‘guided read book’ which will stay in school and continue to bring home their reading book.

A huge thank you to the staff Mrs Bimpson, Mrs Helm and Mr Sykes and students from Turton High School who kindly showed us around the drama studio, how they dress the characters and put on their make up. We were even lucky enough to watch a scene from their latest production ‘The Wizard of Oz’.

A special thank you to the parents who accompanied us on the trip. We really appreciate your support.

Week beginning 1st January.

Happy New Year to all our families. We hope you all had a lovely break.

We have had a brilliant first few days back at school. It has been Fairytale week. We enjoyed coming to school dressed as a fairytale character, we had fun learning in other classrooms in school, best of all, we enjoyed coming to school in our pyjamas and loved our parents and other family members coming in to share our favourite stories. It was lovely to see so many people  coming in to school. Thank you.

At home remember to practise your letter sounds and read your book. Our 5 read challenge will start next week!
