It has been a fun week in Reception, we have read the story Aliens Love Underpants, and even found lots of underpants in our classroom! We have talked about how they got there, we have described. Some of us even said that it is not alright just to take things, you have to ask first. We have drawn our own underpants and written words to describe them in a list. You can help your child at home by writing different lists, maybe a shopping list or a list of toys.
We have still been working hard with our addition and learning the symbols + and = and talking about what they mean. We have added objects in the classroom, people and spots on ladybirds. At home how many different things can you find to add up.
In our circle time, we have talked about the ways that we could be a good friend and what behaviours may hurt other people. We have been kind to our animals at Eagley Infants, making bird feeders for our wild birds. The signs of winter mean that there are no berries on the bushes or trees and the ground is too hard for the birds to get worms. We have been good friends, just like Percy the Park keeper is to his animal friends.
Please remember to sign your child's reading record, so that we know they are doing their 5 Read Challenge.
Week Beginning 8th January
This week we have read the story ‘Whatever Next’ we wrote a list of thing to take to space. Could you help your grown ups write a shopping list?
In maths we have started to add this week. We counted out 2 sets of objects and then put them together to find out how many there are altogether. You could practise this at home with your toys, count out 2 sets of toys and then put them together to find out how many there are altogether.
We created some winter art and have been looking for signs of winter in our outdoor area, look out of your window, what signs of winter can you see?
Well done to the children who completed the first 5 read challenge. We hope you enjoyed your extra playtime!
Remember children, you must read your reading book to a grown up and they will write in your reading diary each time to say that you have read.
This week we started our guided read, so the children will read a ‘guided read book’ which will stay in school and continue to bring home their reading book.
A huge thank you to the staff Mrs Bimpson, Mrs Helm and Mr Sykes and students from Turton High School who kindly showed us around the drama studio, how they dress the characters and put on their make up. We were even lucky enough to watch a scene from their latest production ‘The Wizard of Oz’.
A special thank you to the parents who accompanied us on the trip. We really appreciate your support.
Happy New Year to all our families. We hope you all had a lovely break.
We have had a brilliant first few days back at school. It has been Fairytale week. We enjoyed coming to school dressed as a fairytale character, we had fun learning in other classrooms in school, best of all, we enjoyed coming to school in our pyjamas and loved our parents and other family members coming in to share our favourite stories. It was lovely to see so many people coming in to school. Thank you.
At home remember to practise your letter sounds and read your book. Our 5 read challenge will start next week!
