Spring 1

Week beginning 8th February

What a busy week we have had in nursery!  At the start of the week we celebrated Chinese New Year. We found out that it was the year of the monkey. We had great fun making our own noodles and using chopsticks.

On Shrove Tuesday we enjoyed making and tasting pancakes.  They were delicious!

This week we also thought about how we can use the computer and ipads safely.  The grown ups reminded us of the rules when we use the computer and ipads.  Maybe we can explain the rules to our grownups at home.

Week beginning 1st February

This week we have been thinking about the nursery rhyme "Mary Mary, Quite Contrary". We listened to the sound of church bells and we made our own silver bells. Then we used the hand bells to make our own tunes. In the sand we explored different shells by counting and sorting them into groups.

We have also thought about the nursery rhyme "The Wheels on the Bus" and we made our own bus and tickets and had lots of fun acting out the song.

Outdoors we have been busy building with our new bricks in the sand pit. We have some very skilled builders in our nursery!

We have also continued to explore rhyming words and we have been listening to the initial sound in our names. We have been recognising and counting out 5 objects this week and thinking about how we can make 5 in different ways such as 5 and 0, 2 and 3. Perhaps you could explore the number 5 at home.

Week beginning 25th January

This week we have focussed on the nursery rhymes "Baa Baa Black Sheep" and "5 Cheeky Monkeys". We thought about the weight of the bags of wool and explored different weights using the balancing scales. We used the words heavy and light to compare the weights.

In our creative work we make crocodile sock puppets. Some of them were quite scary!

We have continued to play with rhyming words and have thought of or made up some silly words to rhyme with our names such as Holly Molly.

This week we have also been learning about number 4. We learnt how to recognise it, count 4 objects, place it on a number line and how the number stays the same even when we change the arrangement. Perhaps you could see how many sets of 4 you can find at home or look for number 4's in the environment.

Week beginning 18th January

This week we have been learning and thinking about the nursery rhymes Jack and Jill, Three Blind Mice and Hickory Dickory Dock. Outdoors we explored what made Jack fall with his bucket. We also enjoyed making bubbles in puddles in the rain.

We have been learning about the number 3 and sorting trays of 1 to 3 objects. We played a listening game where we had to identify different sounds.

Week beginning 11th January

This week we have been thinking about the nursery rhyme "Hey Diddle Diddle". We have listened to a fiddle and thought about what the little dog was laughing at. In the hall we explored how we could move over, under and along the apparatus. We have been learning to recognise and write the number 2.

Happy New Year!

Welcome back to school.

We have had a very busy start to the New Year and to our new topic. This week we have started the topic "How many Nursery Rhymes Do I Know?" We have found out that we know 7 Nursery Rhymes but we think we will learn many more over the next few weeks. We asked ourselves the question "Why did Humpty Dumpty fall?" and we came up with lots of different ideas, such as because he was an egg and because he wasn't sitting on the wall properly. We have made our own Humpty Dumpty's and built walls outside for him to sit on.

We have a Nursery Rhyme Cottage for our new role-play area where we are exploring lots of different Nursery Rhymes.

This week we have also be learning about number 1 and we have learnt to write number 1.

At home you could find out how many nursery rhymes your family know. You could also see if you can find the number one in your home or anywhere that you visit over the weekend.
