We have had a lovely time this week. It has been wonderful to have parents and carers come in and share how we learn. We are well aware that it is not easy for parents to get the time to come and share experiences with their child in school, there will be other opportunities within the school year and perhaps another family member could attend. Parents and carers that did attend managed to play and chat with lots of other children, so we all had fun.
This week we have been looking and drawing our numbers. We have been on number hunts, we have looked for numbers in and around our school. Some of us even know which number is on our front door at home.
You can help your child by looking for numbers when you are out and about. Look at the shape of the numeral, are there any straight lines? are there any curved edges?
We have had a busy week again and have been doing lots of number activities.
We have been looking at numerals and practising writing them. We have predicted which items would be heavy and light. We have estimated how many things we could fit in a bucket.
We have been investigating our big balancing scales while introducing new language, such as balanced, lighter and heavier.
This has been tricky, and is something you could do with your child at home.
Hey Diddle Diddle. The cow didn't jump over the moon, we did!
We have had great fun this week using our gross motor movements to jump over a pretend moon and a pretend candlestick. We were just as good in lining up and waiting for our turn.
We have also been looking at the number 3, and counting objects to 3. We have practised writing numerals and drawing circles and lines. This is important because most of our letters are formed using circles and lines.
You could help your child at home by drawing circles and lines, big ones in the air and smaller ones.
We have had great fun in Nursery this week with our Chinese New Year activities. Thank you for all the instruments that were made at home, we also made some at school and we performed using our singing, dancing and musical instruments our dragon dance in the whole school assembly. We were fantastic.
We will be carrying on with our Chinese New Year activities next week, and we will be using our instruments in Nursery.
On Thursday we sat and enjoyed the Owl experience from Lancashire Owls and Hawks. We got to hear information about the birds, We loved the dancing barn owl and the European Eagle Owl Jamuu.
Jamuu actually flew around our hall so that we could get to see how wide his wingspan was.
We all stroked the owls and some of us, if we wanted to, could hold an owl.
We all really loved this experience, and Margaret from Lancashire Owls could not believe that we were nursery children because we sat and listened so well.
It was lovely to see you all again and we hope you had a lovely holiday.
This week we began our new theme of Nursery Rhyme Time. We have been singing lots of different rhymes, some of them our children already know and some we are learning. We built a wall outside for Humpty Dumpty to sit on and just like the rhyme he fell off. We talked about the different ways that we could fix him back together.
We have been counting speckled frogs and collecting spiders.
We also looked at the numeral 1 and we all had a go at writing it.
We had great fun changing the rhyming words in our nursery rhymes. You could help your child at home by looking for and using using different rhyming words .
