More Amazing Animals!

Week Beginning 10th July 2017

What a busy week our penultimate week of the school year has been! On Monday we enjoyed a fantastic trip to Amazonia and Moses Gate Park. This is thanks to FaFoE for funding our coach and Mr Sangster for inviting us to Amazonia.

On Thursday we had a wonderful day participating in lots of activities for Sports Day, these included a clothes race, cheerleading, javelin and many more! The photos for sports day can be found on the website under Children - Gallery - Sports Day 2017.

Today we invited the grown ups who are special to us to come to school and look at all of our hard work over the year and join us for some biscuits and juice. The children have come back to class feeling very proud of their achievements over their year in Reception and the teachers are beginning to feel a little bit sad that we will be saying goodbye very soon! Thank you to all those that attended this morning and have a lovely weekend.

Week Beginning 19th June 2017

This week started as a glorious week of sunshine so we decided to make the most of it and do lots of outdoor learning! In Numeracy we have enjoyed completing lots of different shape activities including colour by shape, a 2D and 3D shape hunt and shapes in the sand. We have explored the different properties of shapes and can describe how many corners and sides different shapes have.

In Literacy we have done some writing that you will get to see on our reports! We have been writing about what we have enjoyed during our year in Reception. They are lovely answers and we can't wait for you to read them soon.

Finally, in preparation for Goosnargh, we have started to make an 'all about me' mobile using a paper plate, paints and lots of glitter! We will continue to work on these next week too.

Week beginning 12th June

What a busy and exciting week we have had. This week we have had lots of fun learning about mathematics using our outdoor and indoor learning environments. We worked in new groups with our friends from Year 1 and Year 2. In Reception class we completed a Trim Trail challenge where we added our points for completing each challenge on each section. In the mud kitchen we made animal food. We had to follow recipes and measure amounts for the recipe to work. Indoors we estimated the number of sweets that we in a jar. This was a very popular activity because the person who had the closest estimate won the sweets. Well done to Sofia in Reception class who guessed that there were 170 sweets. This was the closest estimate because there were 167 sweets in the jar. We also used timers to see how tall we could make a tower in 1 minute. Another activity was to estimate how many orbeez we could hold and how many were in the tray. We have really enjoyed working with our friends from the other classes. Perhaps you could look at their class pages to see what exciting activities we have been doing in their learning environment.

In preparation for Father's Day on Sunday, all the children have made their own Father's Day cards, we hope you like them!

Week Beginning 5th June 2017

We hope you have had a lovely week off this week, we only have one half term left in Reception, how time flies!

This week we have had a busy first week back. In Maths we have been learning about capacity, this has involved exploring different sized containers and finding ways to see which ones hold the most water. We have used language such as deep, full, empty, wide and long. We were all very good at this!

In Literacy we have been reading the story Giraffe's Can't Dance. In this story, Gerald the giraffe was very special because he learned how to dance. We have done our own writing about why we are special and what makes us who we are!

In topic we have done some dancing! This was very exciting, we listened to music with different tempos and found different ways of moving and dancing to each piece. We also learned some dance routines using 'Just Dance' on the interactive whiteboard.

We have also been reading the story 'Rainbow Fish' in topic  and discussing how we are all different, we then use CD's, collage materials and felt tips to create our own gorgeous fish!

Next week is Maths week and we look forward to working with all the other children in different year groups to explore different areas of Maths!

Enjoy looking at this weeks photos below and have a lovely weekend.
